If you wanna see what’s going on when you plugin hardware, HardwareGrowler is for you.
You get it with the growl install package.
If you don’t wanna have HG hanging around in your dock, theres a trick to make it invisible. (first, add it to autostart via the logon items and set hide to true)
Edit /Applications/HardwareGrowler.app/Contents/Info.plist and add following lines after <dict>
<key>LSUIElement</key>
<true/>
<true/>
